WW2 Visitor in Year 6
On Thursday 22nd September Year 6 had a special visitor. Mrs Hancock, otherwise known as Mr Mercer’s Grandma, visited our school to talk about her experiences during the Second World War. She told us what it was like to live in London during The Blitz and how life changed in so many ways. She also brought in an air warden’s helmet, ration book and pictures of the kind of shelters people would use during bombing raids. The children asked many questions and were shocked to learn that sweet rationing lasted until 1954! We really enjoyed learning about this fascinating period of history from someone who was there and gained a deeper appreciation for all that we have now.
