Year 6 Visit the Henry Moore Foundation
On Thursday 17th October, Year 6 visited the Henry Moore Foundation in Much Hadham and were struck by how the sculptures explored ideas of negative space and the relationship between inside and outside forms. Some of the pieces, especially the reclining figures, used gaps and hollow spaces to create a sense of openness, almost as if the air and sky were part of the sculptures themselves. The shapes weren’t solid; instead, they played with emptiness in a way that made you think differently about how art can fill space.
The mother with child sculptures were especially powerful, showing the bond between them in both the closeness of their forms and the spaces left between them. The whole visit left a strong impression of how Moore blended nature and art in a really unique way. This will lead to Year 6 pupils creating their own maquettes in the style of Henry Moore.
