Speaking and Listening

We understand that speaking and listening are at the heart of communication and thus children’s ability to engage with others.  Children do not become effective speakers and listeners by accident and thus our oracy progression ensures that the direct teaching of effective speaking and listening skills are embedded in our school right across the curriculum, including  for a range of purposes and audiences e,g.  class assemblies. role play.

Rainbow Talk and Talk structures (including Frame it, Build on it, Prove it)  support our oracy progression to  ensure children learn to speak in full sentences and with increasing  sophistication as they move from EYFS to Y6.

Kagan structures, learning  partners and P4C are key approaches we use to promote oracy.
