British Antarctica Scientist Visit
On Friday the 9th July, we were visited by Randolph Sliester, who works for the British Antarctica Survey on the ship The Sir David Attenborough and is one of our Year 3 parents. To support their Antarctica topic, Year 2 listened to a presentation about what life is like at the South Pole and had a chance to try on equipment that is needed to survive in temperatures below -50 degrees Celsius. Year 3 were able to join in afterwards and had the chance to ask lots of questions about life in one of the most extreme environments on earth. We learned that in winter the sun never rises, why penguins get ticks and that although there is internet access, it can be a little slow! We would like to thank Mr Sliester for his time and for such an interesting talk.
